About The Position

Codal is searching for a Senior Accountant to manage core accounting functions, ensure the accuracy of financial reporting, and support strategic financial decisions across the organization. To ensure success, you should have extensive experience with full-cycle accounting, financial analysis, and process improvement, along with a forward-looking mindset toward AI-driven automation. This role involves maintaining high quality and standards across all financial operations to support Codal's continued growth. Please note: this role is only open to candidates in Chicago and the Chicagoland area.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive, hands-on accounting experience with increasing responsibility
  • Hands-on experience deploying and operating agentic AI workflows within finance and accounting functions, including identifying automation opportunities and managing AI-assisted processes
  • Prior experience working in an agency or professional services environment
  • Strong command of GAAP and accounting best practices; experience with project-based accounting or revenue recognition
  • Hands-on experience with QuickBooks, Brex, and Bill.com
  • Proven ability to identify financial trends, resolve discrepancies, and translate data into actionable insights.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy, compliance, and financial integrity across all deliverables.
  • Awareness of federal, state, and local tax regulations; assist with tax preparation, filings, and audit support.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Build automation using AI and various finance and accounting tools to streamline operations, reduce manual effort, and improve the speed and accuracy of financial workflows.
  • Structure, analyze, and present financial data to drive decisions.
  • Own the full-cycle accounting process, including journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and account reconciliations.
  • Lead close processes, performing variance analysis, and resolving discrepancies to deliver clean, reliable financials.
  • Partner with leadership to develop budgets, financial plans, and ad hoc reports to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Develop and refine accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to drive operational efficiency and scalability.
  • Collaborate globally with our outside financial team.
