POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting into the Controller, the Senior Accountant will oversee our Indigenous entities, assist in budget/forecast process, lead the year end review engagement and assist in month end related tasks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or related discipline.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in accounting or finance.
  • Hands on experience with preparing, analyzing and reconciling financial statements is essential.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organized with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple, often competing, tasks and timelines.
  • Comfortable working and collaborating with all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite, specifically Excel.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
  • Keen to take on challenges and contribute to the success of the team and company.
  • Working knowledge of ASPE and applying such standards to our financial statements.
  • Understanding of taxation laws and other regulatory requirements relevant to the industry.
  • Understanding of revenue recognition/percentage of completion and its’s relationship with WIP in a project based environment.
  • Have a calm demeanor and bring a positive mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • Working at a CPA firm or a construction industry and/or some exposure to Indigenous partners is preferred, but not a requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze profit and loss discrepancies and investigate variances
  • Assist Controller in putting together monthly financial statements and reporting package
  • Prepare WIP report data for MECI and joint ventures and support revenue recognition in accordance with ASPE
  • Act as subject matter expert (SME) for Indigenous relationships, including joint ventures, partnerships, and subsidiaries
  • Perform joint venture accounting and equity accounting
  • Complete intercompany accounting, reconciliations, and eliminations
  • Perform and review balance sheet reconciliations
  • Review and prepare accrued liabilities, prepaid expenses, bank reconciliations, JV capital assets, and depreciation
  • Prepare and review complex accruals and accounting estimates
  • Review project cost code entries and post required adjustments
  • Review and file GST returns for MECI and joint venture entities
  • Lead and act as the primary contact for year‑end Review Engagements and Audits related to Indigenous partnerships
  • Support quarterly capital asset reviews and potential impairment assessments with the operational team
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of ASPE (Accounting Standards for Private Entities) and apply requirements appropriately
  • Support and supervise other Accountants, including reviewing work and providing guidance and training
  • Reads, understands, and follows Milestone’s Corporate Health and Safety Program, Policy and Procedures. Ensures health and safety is considered in the performance of all activities both on and off the job. Participation in H & S initiatives will be monitored and reviewed, as necessary.
