About The Position

The Senior Accountant position supports the Corporate Finance team by performing advanced responsibilities in specialized accounting areas, including but not limited to executive compensation, insurance, equity investments, and tax. May compile financial information and be responsible for the preparation of various reports, prepare or review journal entries, reconcile or review reconciliations of accounts, analyze financial data and perform accounting research within assigned area of responsibility.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required
2 - 5 years of CPA firm or bank accounting experience required.
Must be able to work independently with limited supervision.
Must be proficient with accounting software applications, Excel and Word.

Nice To Haves

Master's Degree with significant accounting emphasis preferred.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Equivalent experience may be substituted at the discretion of management preferred.
Candidates residing in locations within BankUnited's footprint may be given preference.

Responsibilities

Prepares and reviews journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for monthly, quarterly, and annual close.
Prepares or reviews financial reports, analyses, work papers or schedules relating to technical accounting areas, as needed. Examples include but are not limited to executive compensation, insurance, equity investments, and tax. This requires a thorough understanding of applicable GAAP and an ability to independently research and recommend appropriate application of accounting standards.
Records and reconciles dividend accrual accounts.
Maintains accounting records and reconcile BOLI asset balances and income activity.
Prepares and analyzes periodic BOLI performance reporting for management.
Ensures compliance with regulatory and accounting requirements specific to BOLI programs.
Maintains schedules for accruals, vesting, payouts for equity and deferred compensation plans.
Prepares accounting/other schedules and support for NEO (Named Executive Officer) reporting, including disclosures and year over year changes.
Maintains and supports accounting, tracking, and reporting for executive compensation plans (e.g., deferred compensation, performance based incentive plans, supplemental retirement programs).
Prepares executive ready summaries, dashboards, and financial impact analysis for leadership.
Tracks, reconciles, and documents metric based performance outcomes used in compensation determination.
Maintains records necessary to properly report and account for LIHTC investments, EQ2 investments, SBIC investments, and other Community Development equity investments.
Prepares internal reporting on LIHTC performance, timing of credit recognition, and financial impact.
Ensures proper GAAP and tax treatment for areas assigned.
Prepares documentation for external auditors and support internal control testing.
Ensures compliance with accounting policies and maintain strong documentation for control purposes.
Expected to keep up to date with respect to applicable accounting rules and banking regulations.
Adheres to and complies with applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to anti-money laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, US PATRIOT Act, etc.).
Adheres to Bank policies and procedures and completes required training.
Identifies and reports suspicious activity.
Supervises function, projects or services and/or one or more employees, as applicable.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance coaching; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
