About The Position

The Land Title and Survey Authority of British Columbia (LTSA) is looking to hire a Senior Accountant (Temporary) to join our Finance division in Victoria! The term of this position is 10 months. Who we are: The LTSA is a publicly accountable, statutory corporation that manages BC's land title and survey systems. These systems provide the foundation for all real property business and ownership in the province. We offer meaningful work in the public interest. In support of the Province’s 30-point housing plan, the LTSA built and launched the Condo and Strata Assignment Integrity Register as well as the Land Owner Transparency Registry, a first-of-its-kind registry. We believe in a hybrid of remote and in-office work and know you'll love our office as much as we do! Our employees can work either entirely in the office, or a hybrid of both remote and in-office. Therefore, applicants must currently live in British Columbia or have plans to relocate to British Columbia. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Corporate Controller, the Senior Accountant is accountable for managing purchases and payables, including the administration of all contracts to ensure compliance with Land Title & Survey Authority (LTSA) corporate policies, and assist with day to day accounting and financial administration tasks. The Senior Accountant also ensures general ledger accounting transactions are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Senior Accountant uses a team approach and a customer service focus to deliver efficient and effective financial services in a deadline-driven environment. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for managing the performance of one direct report: the Accounting Clerk.

Requirements

  • Qualified CPA with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Commerce or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of accounting experience
  • A minimum of three years’ experience at a management level with supervisory experience
  • Ability to provide process analysis and improvement of financial systems and maintenance
  • Ability to apply relevant business and taxation laws and regulations within the Province of BC
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (IFRS) and practices
  • Ability to work within a confidential environment and situations when difficult conversations can take place and problem resolution is needed
  • High level of initiative, independent judgement and problem solving skills
  • Strong customer service focus
  • Superior organizational skills, time management skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships and lead a collaborative team
  • Excellent computer skills and fully conversant with Excel, Word and Outlook

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Microsoft Business Central or other ERP software is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Treasury, Purchases and Payables Management
  • Manages accounts payable, vendor relations and cheque disbursements
  • Develops, implements and manages systems, procedures and policies surrounding expenses and purchases
  • Manages General Service Agreements in financial systems
  • Reviews accuracy of invoice coding
  • Reviews expense reports for compliance with corporate policies
  • Continues to improve the payment process
  • Reviews monthly bank reconciliations
  • General Ledger Accounting
  • Assist Manager of Accounting with monthly journal entries and supporting schedules such as prepaid expenses, accounts payable accruals, forgone revenue, lease accounting, and other recurring monthly journal entries
  • Assist Manager of Accounting with preparing and analyzing monthly financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Assist with audit schedule preparation and coordinating necessary year end documents
  • Assistance with preparation of federal and provincial tax reports as well as statistical reporting requests
  • Manage Prepaid Expense and Fixed and Intangible Asset recognition, amortization and disposal processes
  • People Management
  • Provides leadership to ensure the team continuously meets all set targets and best practices
  • Provides development, motivation and direction to direct reports
  • Conducts performance planning in accordance with established performance management processes
