About The Position

The Senior Accountant – Funds Management plays a key role in supporting general accounting functions and ensuring accurate financial reporting. This role focuses on funds management policies, compliance with GAAP standards, and the integrity of accounting processes. The Senior Accountant completes monthly, quarterly, and annual tasks on time, supports the preparation of audited financial statements, and provides strong analytical and customer service support to internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field required.
  • At least three years of progressively responsible related work experience required when the Bachelor's degree is in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least four years of progressively responsible related work experience required if the Bachelor's degree is in an unrelated field.
  • Ability to leverage additional education in lieu of required experience, consistent with institutional equivalency guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Accounting degree strongly preferred.
  • Prior auditing experience and/or benefit plan accounting experience preferred.
  • CPA license or active CPA candidacy preferred.
  • SAP experience preferred, particularly in general ledger and funds management modules.
  • Experience with various software applications, including spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical tools, and graphic packages, to assemble, manipulate, and format data and reports.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in advanced Excel functions, Word, PowerPoint, and other relevant applications.
  • Comfort working with dashboards and reporting tools to monitor financial compliance and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Support the organization’s adherence to funds management policies governing accumulated deficit balances, use of restricted funds, and the chart of accounts.
  • Collaborate with divisions across the organization to perform quarterly reconciliations and address deficit balances.
  • Assist in the yearly closeout process, including updating SAP for new accounts and running the year-end process in SAP.
  • Work closely with divisions and schools to identify funding issues and ensure proper spending of gifts and restricted funds.
  • Partner with the Financial Systems Administrative team to maintain dashboards and tools that monitor compliance with funds management policies.
  • Process journal entries and cost transfers between divisions within the organization.
  • Prepare journal entries, including moderately complex transactions, to ensure compliance with GAAP.
  • Provide exceptional customer service support to the user community, responding to inquiries and resolving accounting issues.
  • Assist in the creation, analysis, and interpretation of SAP reports as needed.
  • Maintain proper documentation and support for various reporting and audit needs.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports to meet the needs of executives and committees.
  • Collect and provide necessary documentation for the preparation of annual audited financial statements, including footnote disclosures and analytical reviews.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the accounting function and organizational objectives.
