MITRE is seeking a Senior Accountant for its Corporate Accounting team in McLean, VA. Requirements

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP accounting practices and principles.
  • Strong problem-solving, research, and analytical skills to resolve inquiries.
  • Financial controls, accounting, and consolidation experience in a company with multiple legal entities (domestic and international).
  • Innovative mind-set with ability to independently initiate and manage change.
  • Ability to effectively plan, work well under pressure and deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint.
  • Experience understanding and researching accounting standards.
  • Experience with government compliance matters, including disclosure statements and indirect rates.
  • Experience with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) compliance.
  • Familiarity with Federally Funded Research and Development Centers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with year-end audit and annual financial statements.
  • Assist with ad-hoc technical accounting projects, such as evaluating revenue recognition, right of use assets, etc.
  • Participate in the monthly close activities.
  • Prepare journal entries, including accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, etc.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis for review.
  • Analysis of monthly financial results and variance review with management.
  • Develop procedures to automate and enhance the monthly close process.
  • Liaison with internal MITRE personnel and external auditors to answer questions and resolve issues.
  • Support internal, external, and Government compliance audits, including annual Incurred Cost Submission, Accounting Systems Audit, and other regulatory audits.
