About The Position

The Global Advertising and Brand Management (GABM) team is responsible for creating marketplace demand and driving commerce for American Express products and services through differentiated and innovative branding, marketing, and experiences. The OnBrand team sits within GABM and functions as American Express' in-house creative agency. Their ambition is to develop forward-thinking ideas and work across channels, end-to-end experiences in digital and beyond while building inspiring brand creative and assets to drive consideration for target audiences. This role is for a Senior Account Manager, Card Design, within the OnBrand team.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in brand management or account management at a leading creative, design, or strategy agency.
  • Demonstrated experience managing relationships and fostering long-term partnerships.
  • Proven track record developing strategies and briefs that led to best-in-class creative work.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, draw insights, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to confidently evaluate brand/design work and provide clear perspectives rooted in insights and business needs.
  • Strong understanding of product identity’s role in go-to-market planning.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with strong ability to translate strategies into presentations for senior leadership.
  • Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Card Design portfolio and process end-to-end from intake through strategic alignment, design concepting and evaluation, production, launch, and post-launch.
  • Oversee the pipeline and manage relationships with product leaders within the US & globally.
  • Translate business needs through Card Design in support of the growing and evolving American Express product line strategy.
  • Leverage strong interpersonal skills as the primary point of contact for Product Managers to foster deep relationships, build trust, and manage the day-to-day requests.
  • Cultivate new and existing relationships to drive business where relevant.
  • Understand a broad and diversified set of product objectives, goals, and target audiences.
  • Collaborate with Brand Design to develop clear, actionable briefs that translate product vision and strategy into Card Design, considering business needs, design principles, and the external perspective.
  • Conduct market research, competitive analysis, and audience insights to inform design strategy.
  • Identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and establish measurement frameworks to evaluate success.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams including strategy, creative, project management, production & card issuance to ensure the seamless execution of physical and digital card design through launch.
  • Provide guidance and support to direct report(s) and project management to ensure deliverables are met and projects are executed successfully.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting knowledge sharing and professional development.
  • Stay up to date with the latest design trends, financial services products, technologies, and best practices.
  • Share industry insights and thought leadership with clients and internal teams, advising on emerging opportunities and strategies, and future proofing the Card Design strategy.
