About The Position

Texas Veteran and Military-Affiliated Student Support is part of a broader team within the Office of the Registrar which plays a critical role in helping students navigate the University, connect with resources, and prepare for post-graduate success. This position, the Texas Veteran and Military-Affiliated Student Success and Support Coordinator, supports students exploring higher education and provides ongoing support from initial inquiry through enrollment and throughout their academic experience at The University of Texas at Austin. The Veteran and Military-Affiliated Student Success and Support Coordinator serves as a strategic team member who leads campus-wide initiatives that advance enrollment, academic success, retention, and graduation of military-affiliated students, with a focus on providing a coordinated student experience from admission through joining the University community, life on the Forty Acres, graduation, and post-graduate success. The coordinator serves as a trusted resource for active-duty service members, veterans, dependents, and transfer students who identify as veterans or military-affiliated. Through outreach, individualized guidance, student programming, and partnership development, the position helps students navigate the University, connect with resources, engage with the campus community, and achieve their academic and professional goals. The position advances student success through four key areas: Veteran and Military-Affiliated Outreach and University Transition Support; Student Experience, Engagement, and Success; Data, Assessment, and Reporting; and Communication and Coordination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in any field.
  • Experience working with or supporting individuals in a guidance, advising, customer service, or program support capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with military-connected students and diverse populations, including an understanding of the unique experiences and needs of veterans and service members.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines in a complex, fast‑paced environment.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including ability to manage, analyze, and maintain data for tracking and reporting purposes.
  • Ability to learn and apply complex processes, policies, and resources in support of student success.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting military-connected students or other student populations.
  • Ability to learn and apply processes related to education benefits and student support resources.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

  • Experience working in higher education or a comparable setting supporting student populations.
  • Experience working directly with military-connected populations, including veterans, active-duty service members, reservists, National Guard members, dependents, or military-affiliated students.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Office of Admissions to support outreach, engagement, and recruitment efforts for military-affiliated prospective and admitted students.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for military-connected students who contact the University while exploring or preparing to attend UT Austin as an incoming or transfer student.
  • Advise prospective military‑affiliated applicants on the application process, processes related to transfer credit evaluation, and program specific requirements.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with students from initial inquiry through enrollment and early transition.
  • Conduct targeted outreach and recruitment at local community colleges, partner institutions, and ROTC programs to strengthen military-affiliated pathways to UT Austin.
  • Develop and coordinate programs and initiatives that support enrollment, retention, and graduation of veteran and military‑affiliated students.
  • Collaborate with advisors and campus partners to identify and support students experiencing academic challenges and connect them with appropriate resources, tools, and internal or external support programs.
  • Lead comprehensive career support and professional development programming tailored to military and veteran students.
  • Collaborate with campus partners in career services, alumni networks, external partners, and employers on military‑specific initiatives, training, site visits, and experiential learning opportunities that support student success and to facilitate engagement and professional development initiatives such as networking events, employer panels, and site visits.
  • Facilitate connections between military-affiliated students and internship, employment, and career development opportunities aligned with their interests, skills, and career goals.
  • Lead workshops on career readiness, translating military experience, and professional skill development.
  • Plan and facilitate orientation sessions, transition programs, welcome week activities, and student events that support belonging and success.
  • Collect and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of military- and veteran-affiliated applicants and enrolled students.
