About The Position

Relative Dynamics is seeking a detail-oriented Semiconductor Process Technician to support microfabrication operations on projects at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) under the ESES IV Contract. The employee will work inside a cleanroom, operating semiconductor processing and metrology equipment, carrying out critical process steps, assisting engineers with testing and troubleshooting, and supporting the flow and quality of MEMS device manufacturing. This is a fully on-site position at NASA GSFC in Greenbelt, Maryland, with attendance required Monday through Friday and significant time spent in the cleanroom. The technician will follow lot travelers and established procedures, monitor and maintain tools, document processing and measurement data, and collaborate with process engineers, equipment maintenance, and design teams. The role also involves supporting process integration and test runs and participating in continuous improvement and safety activities.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in electronics, mechanical technology, semiconductor manufacturing, materials science, or a related field; alternatively, a high school diploma/GED with equivalent hands-on industry experience.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience operating equipment in a semiconductor or MEMS fabrication cleanroom environment.
  • Hands-on experience with photolithography equipment, including spin coaters, exposure tools (mask aligners, steppers, or E-beam), and automated or manual development benches.
  • Experience loading, operating, and monitoring thin-film deposition tools, including physical vapor deposition (thermal/e-beam evaporation and sputtering), PECVD, thermal oxidation furnaces, and ALD.
  • Ability to safely handle hazardous chemicals for wet chemical etching and experience operating plasma-based dry etching (RIE, DRIE) and specialty vapor-phase etching (vapor HF and XeF2) tools.
  • Proficiency in wafer inspection and film measurement using optical/electron microscopy, ellipsometry, stress measurement tools, profilometers, and electrical probing stations.
  • Ability to work onsite Monday through Friday and spend significant time in a cleanroom.
  • Willingness to complete a comprehensive background check that includes drug testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Strict adherence to cleanroom protocols and gowning procedures in Class 10 to 1000 environments.
  • Basic understanding of MEMS structures, fabrication flows, fragile-wafer handling, and semiconductor tools.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, analytical problem-solving skills, record keeping, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders; customer focus, dependability, accountability, productivity, results orientation, and collaborative teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Execute defined microfabrication process steps (lot travelers) for MEMS devices accurately, safely, and consistently.
  • Monitor tool performance, perform basic equipment troubleshooting, and escalate complex process or hardware issues to the fabrication lead.
  • Perform routine equipment calibrations, basic preventative maintenance, and tool qualifications.
  • Document processing results, measurements, and tool data in logs or tracking spreadsheets according to industry standards.
  • Collaborate with process engineers, equipment maintenance, and design teams to support process integration and test runs.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and safety activities.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Life and disability coverage.
  • 401(k) with match.
  • Paid time off (PTO) and company holidays.
  • Tuition reimbursement.
  • Personal development program and continuous learning.
  • Career mobility.
  • Community engagement opportunities.
