Advanced Technology - Semiconductor Process Engineer

nLIGHT•Vancouver, WA
•$95,000 - $145,000

About The Position

The Semiconductor Process Engineer develops next-generation laser products and supports nLIGHT’s advanced semiconductor laser research and development programs. The role transfers processes to full production under New Product Introduction (NPI) and leads wafer fabrication processes for innovative semiconductor lasers made with III-V materials. The engineer develops process solutions to fabrication challenges, designs and creates CAD drawings for photomasks, and works closely with Epitaxy, Process Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, Equipment Engineering, and NPI groups. The position requires experience in electronics or photonics process engineering and hands-on semiconductor device fabrication. Work includes wafer processing, lithography, etching, deposition and coating, metrology, and computer-controlled processing equipment or vacuum systems. The posting lists two pay bands depending on level: Advanced Technology Process Engineer II and Senior Advanced Technology Process Engineer. Applicants must be a US Person under applicable export-control regulations.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree with 4 or more years of experience, or bachelor’s degree with 6 or more years of experience, in chemical, materials, photonics, electronics, or a related physical sciences field.
  • Experience in process engineering of electronics or photonics devices.
  • Experience working in a semiconductor manufacturing cleanroom or laboratory environment.
  • Hands-on electronics or photonics device fabrication experience, including wafer processing for GaAs/InP photonic devices; photolithography and nanolithography; wet and dry etching; oxide film deposition; sputter coating; and metal evaporation processes or equipment.
  • Experience with metrology tools such as SEM, AFM, photoluminescence, and XRD.
  • Experience with computer-controlled semiconductor processing equipment or vacuum systems.
  • Ability to summarize and present results and conclusions clearly and effectively.
  • Must be a US Person: a US citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual granted asylum or refugee status.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong knowledge of III-V semiconductor properties, especially GaAs/InP.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing process-control tools and methods such as SPC, DFM, and FMEA.
