About The Position

The Semi-Skilled Laborer cleans and maintains terminal facilities at IAH, helping provide a safe, clean environment and a positive guest experience. The role requires a friendly demeanor, attention to detail, and proactive responses to guest concerns while building trusted relationships with airlines, tenants, and other customers. Candidates must obtain all required security badge access, including CBP access, within six months of hire. The position is part of Terminal Management’s Custodial Services team, which serves customers and tenants throughout the Houston Airport System by cleaning and maintaining facilities to airport standards. Workdays and hours vary and may include rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays; schedules are subject to change.

Requirements

Six months of related experience.
Ability to read, write, add, subtract, and follow oral and/or basic written instructions, as normally acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling.
Valid Texas Class C driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's driving policy.
Ability to obtain all required security badge access, including CBP access, within six months from the hire date.
Ability to perform extensive, near-continuous physical exertion, including repeated lifting of objects over 80 pounds, deep bending, climbing steps, and assuming awkward positions.
Ability to make coordinated gross motor movements in response to changing external stimuli within moderately demanding tolerances, or coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within low-tolerance demands.
Successful completion of required pre-employment drug testing and physical examination; the position is subject to random drug testing.

Nice To Haves

Hard floor care maintenance experience or custodial experience.
Bilingual or multilingual ability.
A certification related to the position's experience.

Responsibilities

Clean and maintain multi-unit and single restrooms.
Remove trash and clean hard-surface floors.
Clean windows, vacuum, and shampoo carpeted areas.
Perform high dusting and emergency-response biohazard cleaning.
Operate cleaning equipment, machines, and tools for heavy cleaning tasks, including floor scrubbing and polishing, floor stripping and sealing, and steam cleaning furniture.
Operate two-way radios.
Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies.
Perform basic maintenance and repairs to structures, facilities, and equipment as part of housekeeping activities.
Move and unload furniture.
May operate vehicles to and from work locations.
Perform additional miscellaneous assignments as required.
Respond proactively to guest concerns and interact with airport customers using organizational values of integrity, courtesy, and respect.
