About The Position

Select Sires, Inc. is seeking candidates to join their team as a Semen Processing Intern. This temporary full-time, hourly, non-exempt position is located at their Plain City, OH facility and reports to the Manager of Semen Processing and Quality Control. The internship involves serving as a positive representation of the Select Sires, Inc. Mission and Core Values, initial semen evaluation and processing, sterilization of glassware and lab equipment, transportation of semen, performing semen quality control evaluations, semen extender preparation, general laboratory maintenance, and administrative tasks. Interns may also assist with research projects, including sample preparation and analysis. Development and execution of an independent research project is a possibility, but not a requirement. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 5:30 AM – 2:00 PM, and is subject to change to meet departmental needs.

Requirements

  • Capacity to function well in a high-paced environment.
  • Reliable means of transportation to report to work on-time.
  • This position is open to all undergraduate students studying animal/dairy science or a related scientific field.
  • An applicant will preferably be entering their junior or senior year of undergraduate education, but applicants who have graduated and are planning on continuing education in a pertinent field (i.e. graduate or professional school) will be considered.
  • Ability to constantly (6 – 8 hours) sit or stand.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a positive representation of the Select Sires, Inc. Mission and Core Values.
  • Initial semen evaluation and processing; sterilization of glassware and lab equipment.
  • Transportation of semen.
  • Performing semen quality control evaluations, semen extender preparation, general laboratory maintenance, and administrative tasks.
  • Assisting with research projects, including sample preparation and analysis.
  • Development and execution of an independent research project is a possibility, but not a requirement.
