About The Position

The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for a Selling Specialist in the MoMA Design Store, Soho who delivers a knowledgeable, thoughtful, and inspiring customer service experience which plays an integral role in achieving the stores sales and metric goals. Partners with management to formulate strategies to ensure optimal product performance to increase sales of respective categories. Upholds MoMA’s standards, policies, and procedures and proactively connects to the Museum to support a holistic visitor experience. Creates a highly positive experience for customers that supports the store mission and encourages repeat visitation and positive word of mouth for the MoMA stores. Proactively engages with customers to drive conversion and sales and to create a memorable customer experience. Maintains a professional and positive presence at all times.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Two years related retail experience.
  • Strong organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Customer engagement oriented.
  • Organized, detail oriented with superb time management skills.
  • Proactive self–starter who exhibits initiative and leadership.
  • Proficiency with POS, Word, Excel, Google workspace, Order Entry.

Responsibilities

  • Leads by example on the selling floor.
  • Engages customers with knowledge of the product assortment with the goal of increasing conversion and average transaction amounts.
  • Connects with each customer to enhance the customer experience and by suggestive selling, connecting to the Museum through memberships and proactively participating in membership sales efforts as part of Museum’s membership sales goals.
  • Captures email addresses at point of sale while performing transactions such as sales, returns, and gift wrap.
  • Promotes acquisition and engagement with MoMA Design Store Rewards program.
  • Participates in all client development initiatives, not limited to maintaining a customer relationship management (CRM) system
  • Assists with the merchandising of fixtures in accordance with Visual brand standards and ensures optimal stock levels and presentation.
  • Partners with Assistant Manager of Sales and Product Managers to assess product performance, providing feedback to Store management and product management team; coordinates and delivers product training to Sales Associates; coordinates floor standards and replenishment training to Sale Associates; reviews and analyzes sales and margin reports to identify opportunities; develops selling strategies.
  • Partners with Assistant Store Manager of Operations to maintain inventory levels and identify any discrepancies, conducts mini inventories, and participates in physical inventory.
  • Assists managers in periodic training programs for new staff and demonstrates particular functions during the initial new hire shadowing period.
  • Performs in-store product demos from time to time to engage customers.
  • Attends product, vendor, and customer service training.
  • Regularly performs the functions of different positions within the Visitor Experience teams, sp (e.g., Guest Assistant or Specialist), as assigned by management based specific to Visitor Engagement and Membershiop business needs.
  • Performs any other duties as reasonably related to the functions described above.
  • Visits the Museum regularly to keep abreast of current exhibitions and collections gallery rotations and attends at least two curator-led walkthroughs.
  • Attends product, vendor, and customer service training.
  • Attends staff meetings.
  • Completes and periodically refreshes knowledge of all MoMA Design Store Training Modules.
