About The Position

A Survey Segment Manager plays a pivotal role in leading Geomatics teams and overseeing surveying operations within large civil construction projects. This position requires strategic leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to manage resources, budgets, and stakeholder relationships to ensure high-quality, precise survey deliverables.

Requirements

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in civil construction, with a focus on infrastructure such as highways, bridges, and complex structures.
  • Proven experience managing survey teams of 15+ staff and multiple subcontractors.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Advanced proficiency in civil design software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D Microstation, Geopak, Open Roads Design)
  • High-level skills in Microsoft Excel and data management tools.

Responsibilities

  • Define procedures, standards, and quality criteria for all surveying operations.
  • Provide technical input on surveying methodologies and instrumentation for project execution
  • Review and analyze topographic and legal data from clients, engineering firms, or third parties.
  • Coordinate regularly with other project departments to align surveying activities with broader project goals.
  • Supervise survey teams, assign tasks, and ensure compliance with Health & Safety (H&S) regulations.
  • Validate the accuracy of field data, measurements, and calculations.
  • Research legal records and survey documentation to establish property boundaries.
  • Calculate topographical features including heights, depths, and property lines.
  • Prepare and certify maps, sketches, reports, and legal survey descriptions in accordance with QA/QC standards.
  • Compute geodetic data and determine geospatial characteristics using advanced survey tools.
  • Record and document land features including shape, location, elevation, and dimensions.
  • Support the Technical Office with geometric reviews of project documentation.
  • Collaborate in defining the scope of deliverables with engineering firms to align with project requirements.
  • Establish and manage geodetic control points for mapping and construction purposes.
  • Mentor and supervise junior surveyors and field assistants.
  • Ensure proper calibration and verification of surveying instruments per Quality Assurance policies.
