About The Position

Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center is seeking a full-time Security Training Specialist. This role is responsible for delivering and refining a comprehensive training framework for Public Safety Officers and security support staff. The training covers new employee onboarding, annual refreshers, remedial training, new equipment, and policy updates. It also extends to selected caregiving teams with patient and public-facing roles, and other functional teams involved in safeguarding people, property, and assets. The specialist will utilize advanced knowledge of weapons (firearms, batons, handcuffs, and CEW/Taser) to aid in the analysis, design, development, and implementation of training programs. Program development best practices will be used to create and deliver training across various platforms, including in-person, virtual, and computer-based training. Specific training topics include active shooter response, verbal de-escalation, and workplace violence mitigation. The role involves creating and distributing training materials such as manuals, job aids, and web-based modules to ensure consistent service delivery. Training will be delivered within a specified region, encompassing officer-level topics like customer service, report writing, patrolling, and emergency response, as well as leader-level topics such as organizational effectiveness, risk-based staffing, and operational readiness. Collaboration with the training team and training manager is essential for curriculum development and modality readiness. The specialist will work with other Public Safety team members to identify training needs based on risk analyses, incident reports, and other data. Liaising with other enterprise functional areas to recommend joint ventures for improved security is also a key responsibility. The role includes assisting in the design and coordination of major training events like active-shooter drills and soliciting feedback to enhance training effectiveness. Recommendations regarding resource allocation and policy/procedure development to improve department performance are expected. Ensuring compliance with federal and state security and risk regulations (DNV, CMS, HIPAA, workplace violence prevention) and leveraging best practices from peer/industry counterparts is crucial. The specialist will represent Security and Public Safety in various situations and foster a culture of execution, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.
• Typically requires 2 years of experience in Instructor/Trainer in private sector security, public safety, law enforcement (local, state, or federal), or the military.
• At least 1 year experience designing content/curriculum and delivering effective training instruction to adult learners.
• Experience designing content/curriculum and delivering effective training instruction to a variety of audiences.
• Experience developing viable training plans that result in optimal allocation of limited resources.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with multiple/diverse functional areas and multiple business unit leaders and stakeholders.
• Ability to work a flexible scheduling including off-shifts, weekends and holiday, as necessary.
