About The Position

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, this role involves patrolling campus buildings, assisting in locking classrooms, and monitoring the grounds around residential facilities and parking lots. The primary goal is to observe and report any suspicious activity to the security officer on duty. This position requires a student who is enrolled in at least 12 hours per semester and has a completed FAFSA on file for the current academic year.

Requirements

  • Must be a regular, full-time student, enrolled in at least 12 hours per semester
  • Must have a completed FAFSA on file with Financial Aid for the current academic year
  • Ability to use office equipment and various computer programs.
  • Excellent computer skills are necessary in order to do word processing and to maintain work flow/key control.
  • Ability to use a copy machine to duplicate information.
  • Ability to use a fax machine and telephone to record and distribute messages.
  • Attention to detail and concentration for proofing documents and providing accurate corrections.
  • Ability to be discreet with confidential matters.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and files.
  • Ability to greet visitors and conduct business in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Ability to use a two-way radio to dispatch calls to security officers and physical plant staff.
  • Ability to maintain professional appearance.
  • Ability to maintain an attractive, comfortable and professional office.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills are required for communicating effectively with visitors, law enforcement students, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to maintain filing systems, manual and computerized.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt as situation demands.
  • Ability to remain calm under stress and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, to organize and set workloads.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols campus buildings, locking classrooms, turning out lights, securing windows.
  • Patrols campus grounds and parking lots in the Residential Hall areas to observe and report.
  • Answers phones, including emergency call taking, dispatches security officers to calls, greets students, faculty, and staff members, and visitors, combining information, making appointments, recording and distributing messages.
  • Using telephone, FAX, campus mail, and computer, sends and receives messages.
  • Using organizational skills, prioritizes work load so that reports are completed in a timely manner and deadlines are met, keeps both manual and computerized filing system current and keeps office supplies replenished.
