About The Position
JeffTemps, Jefferson’s internal temporary service, is seeking an experienced Security Sergeant to support the Security team at the Washington Township, New Jersey location. The Security Sergeant serves as the front-line supervisor, managing and evaluating security officers and their performance. The role responds to escalated, critical, major, and serious campus incidents, debriefs with appropriate stakeholders, and reviews assignments to support efficient use of resources. The Sergeant is responsible for the safety and security of Jefferson employees, students, visitors, staff, and property, and helps mitigate workplace violence in compliance with applicable regulatory and statutory requirements. The position must be available to work all shifts and rotate between shifts according to organizational needs. Serious incidents are addressed in coordination with the Jefferson Police Department and/or local law enforcement, consistent with applicable laws and policies. The role is based in Washington Township, New Jersey. The listed schedule is evenings, 3:00 p.m.–11:30 p.m., although the posting also states that the Sergeant must be available to work and rotate across all shifts.

Responsibilities
- Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff in a manner consistent with Jefferson’s values.
- Patrol Jefferson buildings and campus to maintain a safe, violence-free environment; make unscheduled checks of sensitive and high-risk areas and periodically check locations for security violations, unauthorized persons, and dangerous conditions.
- Report security concerns from the shift in writing to the Lieutenant.
- Monitor on-shift Security Officers to ensure they are on post and meeting post expectations and requirements; act as the front-line supervisor and report problematic situations to the shift Lieutenant.
- Provide management with formal communication about conduct problems consistent with established policy and performance standards.
- Review security incident reports for completeness, accuracy, and consistency with reporting standards, and help officers meet those standards.
- Ensure officers prepare reports for security complaints and incidents and submit written records before the end of the shift or when directed.
- Work security details, provide VIP protection and crowd control for special events, and conduct on-campus escorts; interact with the Jefferson Police Department and relevant law enforcement for special events.
- Partner with the Jefferson Police Department, local police, District Attorney’s office, and other law enforcement agencies regarding criminal offenses and complaints; testify in court proceedings when subpoenaed.
- Advise crime victims about due process and ways to report crimes to appropriate authorities.
- Assist as a member of the Emergency Response Team during fires, bomb threats, explosions, and other life-threatening or crime-related situations.
- Respond to escalated, critical, major, and serious campus incidents; take appropriate action with the Jefferson Police Department and/or local law enforcement and debrief with appropriate stakeholders.
- Review the effectiveness of current assignments to maximize efficiency and resource utilization.
- Support the safety and security of employees, students, visitors, staff, and property and mitigate workplace violence in accordance with applicable requirements.
