The Security & Safety Officer is responsible for the security, safety, and well-being of all guests and colleagues, ensuring they do not cause harm to themselves or others due to unsafe conditions or unsafe acts. This role is primarily responsible for ensuring the safety of guests, employees, property, and hotel assets. The officer will initiate and follow up on all investigations of crimes committed against property and persons, assist sick and injured guests and employees, and ensure proper documentation and disposition of reports. They will also initiate investigations, write incident and accident reports, monitor investigations to their timely conclusion, and ensure appropriate follow-up with guests, visitors, and employees, documenting all contacts. Additionally, the officer will assist the supervisor in checking alarm systems, safety and fire equipment systems, and closely monitoring the security of building doors, service areas, and delivery areas. A strong understanding of hotel fire & life safety/emergency procedures is required, along with maintaining a high standard of personal appearance and hygiene. The role involves patrolling hotel grounds, being alert for fire hazards and unsafe conditions, and taking appropriate action. The officer must be able to act according to all Emergency Response Plans, perform Safe and Lock Out procedures, and maintain good public relations with guests. Reporting for duty on time, attending daily briefings and de-briefings, and knowing the position and name of every Security and Safety Officer on shift are essential. The role requires maintaining follow-up action to ensure adherence to schedules and work standards, being alert for any unusual occurrences, and taking appropriate action. Detailed and accurate reports of all occurrences/incidents during the shift must be made, and all incident/accident/end of shift reports must be filled out without fail after every shift. Other relevant paperwork must also be completed as needed. Security and Safety Officers will notify the Security and Safety Supervisor/Director when reporting for or finishing duty. They must not discuss or divulge department details/information to any other colleagues/outsiders/media. Security and Safety Officers will be required to use common sense and make judicious decisions, aiming to diffuse situations quickly, while being polite, diplomatic, and professional, yet firm in upholding Fairmont’s policies and procedures.
