The Security & Safety Officer is responsible for the security, safety, and well-being of all guests and colleagues, ensuring they do not cause harm to themselves or others due to unsafe conditions or unsafe acts. This role is primarily responsible for ensuring the safety of guests, employees, property, and hotel assets. The officer will initiate and follow up on all investigations of crimes committed against property and persons, assist sick and injured guests and employees, and ensure proper documentation and disposition of reports. They will also initiate investigations, write incident and accident reports, monitor investigations to their timely conclusion, and ensure appropriate follow-up with guests, visitors, and employees, documenting all contacts. Additionally, the officer will assist the supervisor in checking alarm systems, safety and fire equipment systems, and closely monitoring the security of building doors, service areas, and delivery areas. A key part of the role involves being well-versed in hotel fire and life safety/emergency procedures, maintaining a high standard of personal appearance and hygiene, and consistently offering professional, friendly, and engaging service. The officer will patrol hotel grounds, be alert for fire hazards, unsafe work practices, and unsafe conditions, taking appropriate action. They must be able to act according to all Emergency Response Plans, perform Safe and Lock Out assistance, and maintain good public relations with guests. Reporting for duty on time, being present at daily briefings and de-briefings, knowing the position and name of every Security and Safety Officer on shift, and maintaining follow-up action to ensure adherence to schedules and work standards are also crucial. The officer must be alert for any unusual occurrences and take appropriate action, making detailed and accurate reports of all occurrences/incidents during their shift, and filling in all incident/accident/end of shift reports without fail after every shift. Other relevant paperwork must also be attended to. When reporting for or finishing duty, Security and Safety Officers will notify the Security and Safety Supervisor/Director. Security and Safety Officers will not discuss or divulge department details/information to any other colleagues/outsiders/media, failing which defaulter’s services will be subject to Progressive Corrective Action up to and including dismissal. Security and Safety Officers will be required to use common sense and make judicious decisions, with the basic aim being to diffuse the situation as quickly as possible. They will be polite, diplomatic, and professional in handling situations, yet firm in upholding the Fairmont’s policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned.
