Security Researcher – Red Team

Apple•Cupertino, CA

About The Position

Apple is seeking a Senior Security Researcher to join its specialized Red Team and help secure Apple products by finding vulnerabilities before attackers do. The role focuses on the boundary between hardware and software, including vulnerabilities in the microarchitecture, memory management, and execution pipelines of modern CPUs and GPUs, as well as the low-level code that runs on them. The work involves connecting hardware primitives with kernel-level exploits and investigating side channels and architectural logic flaws.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering or a related engineering degree.
  • Experience with modern CPU architectures, such as pipeline stages, caching mechanisms, MMU, or speculative execution.
  • Experience with low-level software, such as C, C++, or Assembly.
  • Experience discovering vulnerabilities or developing exploits at the OS or hypervisor level, or in hardware-software interfaces, evidenced by work such as CVEs, bug bounties, conference talks, or whitepapers.

Nice To Haves

  • 10 or more years of relevant industry experience.
  • Extensive familiarity with ARM v8/v9 or x86 instruction sets.
  • Understanding of GPU architectures, including execution pipelines and memory hierarchies, and software interfaces such as driver vulnerability research, compute batching, and memory isolation.
  • Deep understanding of operating system internals, kernel architecture, and memory management.
  • Experience with hardware description languages such as Verilog or VHDL, or pre-silicon security validation.
  • Experience with confidential computing environments.
  • Familiarity with security implications of AI/ML hardware accelerators and complex GPU workloads, such as memory handling in PagedAttention or Mixture of Experts.
  • Familiarity with reverse engineering tools such as IDA Pro and Ghidra, and dynamic analysis or debugging tools.

Responsibilities

  • Find vulnerabilities in Apple products to help safeguard users.
  • Research vulnerabilities in modern CPU and GPU microarchitecture, memory management, and execution pipelines.
  • Investigate low-level software and hardware-software interfaces, including side channels and architectural logic flaws.
  • Conduct vulnerability research or exploit development at the OS or hypervisor level.
