About The Position

The Denver Sheriff Department is the largest Sheriff Department agency in Colorado, employing more than 1,000 sworn and civilian professionals across a wide range of specialized divisions. The department operates two detention facilities, provides security for District and County court systems, manages statewide transportation and extradition of individuals in custody, and supports specialized units such as fugitive apprehension and K-9. Additional responsibilities include oversight of a Community Corrections and Work Release facility and security services at Denver Health Medical Center. Security Operations Specialists are essential to the safe and efficient operation of detention facilities. Working in support of Deputy Sheriffs, they help maintain security and control through the use of advanced monitoring and communication systems. This role is critical for maintaining situational awareness, identifying potential risks, and ensuring timely and effective responses to incidents or emergencies. As facilities operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, candidates must be available to work the following shifts below including weekends and holidays, with varying days off: 1st Watch: 2:00am-12:00pm 2nd Watch: 6:00am-4:00pm 3rd Watch: 12:00pm-10:00pm 4th Watch: 4:00pm-2:00am

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the movement and activity of deputies, staff, and authorized visitors using CCTV, radio, and intercom systems
  • Control and coordinate movement within secure areas by operating electronic systems for doors, elevators, and access points
  • Provide administrative and operational support related to the supervision of individuals in custody, primarily in non-contact roles
  • Maintain accurate records, perform data entry, and support coordination efforts to ensure efficient and compliant operations
  • Track and document population movement, visitations, professional contacts, medical incidents, and reports in accordance with policies and legal requirements
  • Manage and regulate radio communications, including limiting non-essential traffic during critical incidents
  • Respond to emergency alarms by monitoring alert systems and promptly notifying supervisory staff
  • Inspect and monitor control systems (alarms, doors, elevators) to ensure proper functionality and readiness
  • Oversee visitation processes and screen individuals requesting access to secure areas
