About The Position

The Denver Sheriff Department is seeking a Plumber to join their Maintenance Division. This position offers a stable schedule of four consecutive 10-hour shifts and involves working in detention facilities around persons in custody. The role supports the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing and related building systems, ensuring compliance with codes, safety standards, and organizational procedures. The ideal candidate possesses strong troubleshooting abilities, attention to detail, and flexibility to assist across multiple trades. The primary work location is the Denver Detention Center.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Three (3) years of experience in building operations, engineering and equipment and systems maintenance.
  • A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
  • Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
  • Must complete and pass a background investigation that encompasses the applicant's employment and criminal history.
  • Applicants for employment with the City and County of Denver must have valid work authorization that does not require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and general servicing of plumbing systems and fixtures in compliance with applicable codes and organizational standards.
  • Install, modify, or upgrade plumbing systems and fixtures for new construction, tenant improvements, and remodeling projects based on specifications and code requirements.
  • Respond to service requests, diagnose plumbing issues, and implement effective solutions.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair a variety of fire protection systems.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, sketches, and written or verbal instructions; prepare sketches as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete daily activity reports.
  • Estimate materials, labor, and equipment requirements for assigned projects.
  • Provide support across multiple skilled trades as needed for maintenance and repair tasks.
