West Chester University of Pennsylvania’s Public Safety Department invites applicants for the two vacant full-time Security Officer positions. The shift available is 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. The members of the Department of Public Safety are committed to enhancing the university experience by maintaining a safe, orderly and inviting environment for our students, employees and guests to study, work and enjoy all of what the university has to offer. In partnership with our community, we are committed to being campus guardians and serve our community by treating all with respect, compassion, and fairness. All security officers are responsible for providing security services to the university community and for the protection of state property. To help maintain the safety and wellbeing of our campus community, Security Officers are responsible for active patrol of our campus property. This includes all residence halls, academic buildings, parking garages, and campus grounds. The ideal candidate possesses a firm understanding of the role of security in a university environment. A successful candidate must embrace the concept of fair and impartial enforcement with respect to the rights of others. The ideal candidate must have the ability to work under varying weather conditions; The ability to remain alert and to act quickly and calmly in emergencies; demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills; demonstrated ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; ability to enforce violations of the student code of conduct fairly while maintaining a respectful demeanor. This position is deemed "essential" and must remain or report to work during partial or full day closings of the university due to hazardous road conditions, emergency circumstances or other reasons.
