About The Position

The Security Officer position is a full-time role located at the Main Campus, with night shifts. The role involves protecting, serving, and assisting patients, staff, and guests of Firelands Regional Medical System (FRHS). Responsibilities include responding to emergency codes, de-escalating distressed individuals (including those with behavioral or psychiatric emergencies), and subduing/restraining individuals when necessary. The officer will monitor individuals for unsafe actions, maintain a safe and secure environment by monitoring buildings and grounds, and handle dangerous ordinances. The role may involve contact with blood, body fluids, and deceased persons with appropriate personal protective equipment. Duties also include investigating incidents, accidents, or complaints, and facilitating the safe takeoff and landing of medical aircraft.

Requirements

High school graduate or GED equivalent required.
Must hold or obtain International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security officer certification upon hire or obtained within six months of hire.
Must have BAT (Breath Alcohol Technician) certification upon hire or obtained within six months of hire with re-certification every 5 years.
Must have CPR/AED/First Aid certification upon hire or obtained within six months of hire with re-certification every 2 years.
Must have non-violent crisis intervention training upon hire or obtained within six months of hire with re-certification every 2 years.
Must possess a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license and be insurable under Firelands' auto policy.
Must be able to safely drive during day time and night time hours without restriction.
Employee must provide proof of personal automobile liability insurance coverage upon request.
Maintain certification in handcuffing, defensive tactics, Turtle Shield and use of the Reflex Protect defensive device as appropriate.
Must have a mobile phone.

Nice To Haves

Prior military, law enforcement or security experience preferred.
Ohio Peace Officers Training Association certification may substitute for the International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security officer certification requirement.

Responsibilities

Uses communication skills to verbally engage with and/or deescalate people who are in distress including behavioral and psychiatric emergencies.
Subdues/restrains individuals when needed.
Monitors one or more individuals at a time for any unsafe actions or behaviors.
Monitors medical center buildings and grounds to maintain a safe and secure environment and takes appropriate action to resolve problems.
Handles dangerous ordinances (e.g. firearms, narcotics) when needed.
With appropriate personal protective equipment may be in contact with blood, body fluids and deceased persons.
Investigates incidents, accidents or complaints on medical center property.
Facilitates the safe takeoff and landing of medical aircraft.
