About The Position

The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) is seeking a Security Officer to enforce Museum security regulations for the public and staff. The Museum aims to foster a collaborative and respectful work environment with a diverse staff. The Security Officer will guard and patrol assigned areas, typically at Museum entrances, ensuring the safety and security of visitors, staff, and the collection.

Requirements

  • Must be able to stand for sustained periods of time.
  • Must be able to maneuver safely up and down flights of stairs multiple times per round or shift.
  • Must be able to bend, jump, run and lift about 5-25 pounds.
  • Basic Computer Skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite strongly preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Previous security experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce Museum rules of conduct for visitors.
  • Ensure public, staff, and contractors adhere to fundamental security rules to prevent theft, fire, damage, and personal injury.
  • Prevent disorder and overcrowding.
  • Direct visitors to bag inspection tables.
  • Inspect packages and bags entering the Museum.
  • Monitor and report safety conditions.
  • Responsible for coat checking and elevator operation.
  • Check packages of persons and/or staff leaving the Museum.
  • Provide escort for the transportation of art to and from shipping points.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Manager of Security.
  • Other duties as assigned.
