About The Position

Brenau University is seeking a Security Officer to join their team. This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position based at the Historic Gainesville Campus. The Security Officer is responsible for patrolling the university campus, ensuring the safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors, responding to incidents, enforcing campus rules, and providing security services for special events. The role may also involve custodial and maintenance duties, providing information, and maintaining records. This position requires the ability to work nights and weekends as needed, and hours may be extended to meet departmental needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States on or before the confirmed start date (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or foreign national with work authorization not requiring employer sponsorship).
  • Ability to maintain eligibility throughout employment.
  • Ability to operate and drive a motor vehicle.
  • Must possess a valid Georgia driver’s license with a clean driving record (MVR check required).
  • Must be willing to submit to and pass a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age to operate university vehicles or perform any driving activity for Brenau purposes.
  • Proof of any professional degree, license, or certification required to competently perform the work must have been submitted at the time of application.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years in Law Enforcement or Security experience preferred.
  • Post-Certified highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Patrolling the university campus by foot, golf cart, or patrol unit, including walkways, parking lots, and buildings.
  • Ensuring the safety of the university community, including students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Operating security equipment, such as alarms and control panels, to monitor the area.
  • Responding to reports of incidents, such as suspicious activity or security violations, and calling police or other authorities if necessary.
  • Enforcing campus rules and regulations, such as parking, smoking, and alcohol and drug use, and issuing warnings, citations, or requesting towing.
  • Directing traffic and parking.
  • Providing crowd control or other security services for special events.
  • Acting as a liaison between the university and local law enforcement.
  • Performing custodial and maintenance duties.
  • Providing information and directions.
  • Maintaining records.
