About The Position

This is a full-time, third shift position responsible for ensuring the safety and security of buildings and grounds. The role involves patrolling, monitoring, responding to emergencies, and maintaining logs and reports. The Security Officer will interact with the public, conduct searches, and utilize various security equipment.

Requirements

  • Ability to prepare meaningful, concise & accurate reports
  • Ability to demonstrate physical fitness to walk, stand for long periods, bend, use hands, move fingers
  • Ability to obtain & maintain valid driver’s license as required by shift/assignment

  • Ability to work overtime, weekends & evenings
  • Ability to carry out detailed instructions

Responsibilities

  • Patrol building & grounds to assure safety & security by walking in & around buildings & utilizing state vehicles to travel from one location to another as shift/assignment requires
  • Check & secure buildings using hand-held, electronic Guard Tour Pipe (PIPE)
  • Lock & unlock doors
  • Report safety hazards & other unusual conditions
  • Investigate & document safety & security violations
  • Maintain daily log of all activity & alarms that occur during the shift
  • Check personnel/visitors entering & leaving premises on detection equipment &/or by log &/or by checking identification
  • Conduct searches of packages &/or persons
  • Utilize x-ray machine & pass-through metal detector
  • Use professional & courteous customer services techniques in all personal & telephone contacts with public
  • Assist in maintenance of peace & order in/around assigned area
  • Complete necessary reports
  • Use personal computer & associated hardware/software (e.g., uses Outlook for e-mail, studies computer-based training programs, writes shift & incident reports)
  • May use Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) & electronic intrusion devices to monitor buildings as required by shift & assignment
  • Perform related security & safety functions (e.g., administer First Aid, CPR, &/or use Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in response to medical emergencies)
  • Maintain current knowledge of location & operation of life safety equipment in buildings (e.g., fire alarms, PA system, gas & water shutoff valves)
  • In emergencies, activate fire alarms, shut off gas & water, use PA system to alert tenants, assist with evacuations
  • Participate & successfully complete all training (e.g., security related & other) assigned by supervisor
  • Perform variety of miscellaneous tasks as assigned (e.g., remove snow & ice; empty trash, clean out vehicles, keep work area clean)
  • Perform any other duties required to ensure building occupants’ safety
