About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This position involves enforcing policies and procedures with all patients/residents, visitors, and staff. The Security Officer patrols and secures facility buildings and grounds as assigned, monitors the conduct of visitors, and confronts unauthorized persons for questioning. They report safety, fire hazards, or security violations and respond to all requests for assistance. The role also involves assisting with problem-solving, potentially escorting personnel to and from parking areas, and maintaining records by preparing incident reports and other security-related documents. The position requires the ability to work with all age groups and prioritize calls for service based on urgency and safety needs. Security officers are expected to de-escalate highly stressful situations and maintain awareness of local laws affecting conduct on private property. Necessary skills include effective communication, professional report writing, and the physical ability to perform basic security functions.

Requirements

  • Must be able to prioritize calls for service in order of urgency based on safety needs.
  • Security officers are expected to work in highly stressful situations in which they are to de-escalate the situation as soon as possible.
  • All security officers are requires to maintain awareness of local laws which affect the way individuals conduct themselves on private property.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • College or vocational education is preferred.
  • Prior experience healthcare security, contract security and/or law enforcement is highly preferred.
  • May require a current valid driver's license with Sanford insurability dependent upon region.
  • Basic certification by International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety preferred within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • May escort personnel to and from parking areas as requested.
  • Maintains records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
  • Ability to work with all age groups.
  • Must be able to prioritize calls for service in order of urgency based on safety needs.
  • De-escalate highly stressful situations as soon as possible.
  • Maintain awareness of local laws which affect the way individuals conduct themselves on private property.
