Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5 years WellSpan Security Officer Experience for 5 Years in good standing Required or 5 years A combination of experience equaling at least 5 years (total) in good standing:WellSpan Security Officer ExperienceOther Healthcare Security Officer Other Security Officer Experience Military ExperienceLaw Enforcement Experience (includes police, corrections and probation/parole)
  • Must possess a valid driver's license in the current state of residence.
  • Driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management.
  • Successful completion of the below training courses are required for this position.
  • FEMA ISP: IS-100.c – Intro to Incident Command System, I-100
  • FEMA ISP: IS-200.C – Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response

Responsibilities

  • Patrols the buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intrusion.
  • Patrol parking lots to ensure the safety of individuals and the security of parked vehicles.
  • Reports all suspicious activity, parking violations and abandoned vehicles.
  • Responds to emergency situations such as accidents and injuries, fire alarms, crimes, in progress events and safety hazards and uses the appropriate force to resolve situations by following established training, policies and procedures.
  • Provides assistance, summons proper authorities, and polices area to maintain order, safety and to protect property.
  • Employs all necessary equipment to include Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during situations that are deemed unsafe and during interactions with precaution patients.
  • Maintains post as assigned in accordance with training.
  • Responds to inquiries for advice or assistance from employees, students, visitors, and other customers; provides physical restraint of psychiatric patients and others as needed.
  • Monitors the conduct of visitors on premises; confronts unauthorized persons for questioning as needed; secures weapons and contraband.
  • Escorts personnel and visitors to parking lots and hospital buildings.
  • Notifies police in case of theft, breaking and entering or other related criminal matters requiring notification of authorities.
  • Assists in Investigations.
  • Maintains records, prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to safety and security activities and attends hearings.
  • Conducts routine visual inspections; reports safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.
  • Coordinates and/or responds to on site fire drills; responds to on site fire alarms and assists the responding fire department.
  • Secures and/or unlocks offices and facilities.
  • Supports the parking policy, enforcing parking regulations, providing traffic management, and performing other related duties.
  • Complies with all department and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
  • Performs Security Operations duties as assigned.
  • Secures patient valuables and found property.
  • Prepares clear, concise, and factual incident reports.
  • Ensures all documentation is submitted as required prior to end of shift.
  • Completes vehicle checklist.
  • Completes as needed and verifies monthly inspections are completed as required to include but not limited to panic alarm inspections, fire extinguisher inspections, door alarm inspections to include supporting documentation.
  • Complete security access requests within the badge access control system and creating new badges as needed.
  • Willing and capable of working at any post within an assigned setting.
  • Assists with the daily operations of the shift to include but not limited to documentation, patrols, responses, post assignments, escalation of incidents and serves as a Charge Officer as needed.
  • Provides administrative support for programs and policy implementation and maintenance as assigned.
  • In the absence of a Supervisor, conducts shift huddles reviewing incidents from previous shift, current situational awareness information, and upcoming events requiring security intervention and/or assistance.
  • Assists Supervisors by ensuring appropriate staffing for oncoming shift if necessary.
  • Conducts investigations as directed.
  • Conducts drills when directed.
  • In the absence of a supervisor, monitors security activities in assigned areas to ensure secure and safe conditions for employees, patients, and visitors, and to protect System buildings, assets, and premises.
  • In the absence of a supervisor, assumes on-call responsibilities to address immediate incidents/concerns within the region as directed.
  • Properly escalates all security issues through the chain of command and existing guidelines.
  • Assists Managers and Supervisors with administrative tasks and assignments when directed.
  • Assists in managing key system and assigning keys as needed.
  • Reviews all policies, procedures and standard work for all locations in the region.
  • Works one shift in each building within assigned reach at least once per month.
  • Be prepared to cover incidents in all buildings within the region they are assigned.
  • Remains current on all required trainings.
  • Attends trainings/educational programs as assigned.
  • Participates in department meetings and in-service meetings as directed.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through supporting improvement and innovation.
  • Maintains and follows established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment and safety standards.
  • Performs other related duties as identified.
