About The Position

The Science Museum of Virginia is seeking a dynamic and vigilant Security Officer to help us create unforgettable experiences for our guests. As part of our dedicated Security team, you’ll play a key role in safeguarding our vibrant 18-acre campus from fascinating exhibits to spectacular events. This isn’t your typical security job! You’ll patrol museum grounds, monitor surveillance systems, and enforce safety protocols all while being a welcoming face for visitors, assisting with events, coordinating with first responders, and handling vital logistics like packages and deposits. Requirements

  • Security experience working in a multi-level, high-volume customer-focused venue
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to follow instructions and relay information clearly across multiple platforms and across all levels of the organization
  • Comfortable working with a diverse public in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Sufficient strength, agility and stamina to patrol the Museum’s 18-acre campus on foot in all weather conditions
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure
  • Ability to take initiative in resolving safety or security concerns
  • Ability to effectively communicate with emergency services or Capitol Police
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Nice To Haves

  • Considerable security experience
  • CPR certification
  • Prior work in a high-volume, customer-focused environment
  • VA DCJS 01-E certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire)
  • Spanish fluency
