About The Position

Under the general direction of the Director of Security, the Security Officer monitors areas of Emanuel Medical Center hospital, clinics, and nursing home to help ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees. The officer monitors parking facilities and pedestrian and vehicle traffic in accordance with department and facility policies. The officer is an employee of Emanuel Medical Center and is expected to follow facility policies and procedures. The Security Officer answers to the Director of Security.

The role may involve stressful situations, including discussing facility policies and procedures with a wide variety of people, dealing with hostile attitudes or people unfamiliar with healthcare procedures, and interacting with people who have lost loved ones. The officer is expected to balance compassion with the facility’s security needs. Emanuel Medical Center provides access to trained personnel to help employees cope with these stresses and encourages use of those resources. Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Prior security and training experience is desired.
• Ability to stand for long periods.
• Ability to use a computer keyboard and read correspondence related to the position.
• Ability to lift 75 pounds.
• Ability to converse by telephone and in person with patients, families, and visitors.
• Ability to deal with stressful situations, including hostile attitudes and interactions with people who have lost loved ones.
• Moderate exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
