About The Position

The Security Officer ensures a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, staff, and property by patrolling facilities, responding to emergencies, and enforcing access control procedures. This role supports patient care and operational reliability by preventing and responding to safety and security incidents in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards. The officer performs other duties as assigned and carries out all job responsibilities in alignment with Kettering Health's mission, vision, values, and B Safe program.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of experience in security, law enforcement, military, or a related field.
• Valid Ohio driver's license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or obtain it within six months of hire.
• If assigned to law enforcement duties, current Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) certification.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with diverse individuals.
• Strong observational, situational awareness, and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to remain calm and effective in emergencies.
• Proficiency in basic computer and incident reporting systems.
• Knowledge of de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques.
• Understanding of HIPAA, OSHA, and security regulations.

Nice To Haves

• Associate degree or higher in criminal justice, security management, or a related field.
• Experience in a healthcare security setting.
• International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic or Advanced certification.
• Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) or Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
