About The Position

Provides protection for the safety and security of university and hospital personnel, patients, students, visitors, and Jefferson assets. Performs duties at fixed posts or on patrol and building and grounds rounds, and responds to service calls. Checks for unauthorized persons, security violations, and fire or safety hazards. Officers may be assigned to any post, patrol duty, environment, or shift. This is a highly visible uniform position requiring an excellent appearance and all required security instruments.

The role includes helping patients, visitors, and students with directions or information; checking identification badges and escorting unauthorized persons from campus; responding to emergencies and other service calls; and documenting incidents, accidents, and suspicious activity. Officers maintain patrol logs, notify supervisors of conditions, and provide follow-up information as directed. They may help diffuse emergency situations using conflict-resolution skills, provide security escorts, patrol parking areas, support safety teams during helicopter landings and fire-related emergencies, enforce no-smoking rules, inspect deliveries and packages, and assist with training new security staff. Other related security, safety, and protection duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• For Pennsylvania positions, valid ACT 235 Certification is required within 90 days of hire.
• A valid driver’s license is required to work at certain Jefferson locations.
• Ability to understand the responsibilities and technology associated with the 24-hour Security Response Center (SRC).
• Ability to function effectively with Microsoft desktop applications, including Word and email.
• Ability to work all shifts and rotate between shifts as needed.
• Must maintain an excellent appearance and be equipped with all required security instruments.

Nice To Haves

• Prior security, police, or military experience preferred.
• Experience in campus or hospital security, law enforcement, or another related Criminal Justice agency strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform security duties at fixed posts or while patrolling and making rounds of buildings and grounds.
• Respond promptly to calls for service, including priority or serious incidents, problems, and emergencies.
• Check for unauthorized persons, security violations, and fire or safety hazards.
• Verify that people on the property are authorized by checking identification badges and escort unauthorized persons from campus as necessary.
• Notify a Sergeant or Lieutenant of relevant conditions.
• Help diffuse emergency situations using conflict-resolution skills when required.
• Investigate and document accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities.
• Maintain a daily patrol log and submit it to the Sergeant or Shift Supervisor at the end of the tour.
• Provide follow-up information to the Security Investigator and/or Lieutenant as directed.
• Assist employees, students, patients, patient families, and visitors as incidents occur, including providing requested security escorts.
• Assist with campus parking issues and patrol parking lots and parking lot equipment.
• Support safety teams, including assisting the Trauma Team with helicopter landings and fire-related emergencies.
• Enforce no-smoking environments inside and outside on campus.
• Support loss prevention, including inspecting deliveries and packages, and assist with training new security staff as directed.
• Provide directions or information to patients, visitors, and students when requested.
• Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with Jefferson's values.
• Perform other related security, safety, and protection duties as assigned.
