About The Position

Mercyhealth is seeking a Security Officer to ensure the safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff. This role involves patrolling buildings and grounds, responding to calls, monitoring security equipment, and investigating incidents. The Security Officer will also be responsible for training new security staff, assisting with fire drills, and ensuring compliance with security policies. This position requires excellent customer service skills, the ability to handle stressful situations, and basic computer proficiency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic Computer skills required; Word/Outlook/Excel.
  • Able to interact with customers and communicate clearly.
  • Able to manage anger, fear, hostility and violence of others following Mercyhealth principles of customer service.
  • Illinois residents are required to possess a valid FOID (Firearms Owners Identification Card) card/ or be eligible to obtain one for employment.
  • Officers will complete department specific training (Level 3 TACT training, handcuffing, OC spray, ASP baton, and physical control tactics training, etc.) required within 12 months of hire.
  • Must maintain proficiency on an annual basis.
  • Those assigned to House of Mercy must have a reliable source of transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Security experience preferred.
  • Bilingual skills are preferred.
  • If working at House of Mercy location, TACT level 3 is required.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, visitors, and Mercyhealth partners in a timely, professional, and courteous manner.
  • Patrol buildings, grounds, and parking lots to detect irregularities and provide a visible deterrence to crime.
  • Inspect doors, windows, and locks to ensure a high level of security.
  • Respond to dispatch/security service calls and overhead emergency code calls.
  • Check grounds and areas for cleanliness and safety.
  • Perform parking lot patrols and enforce Mercyhealth parking policy.
  • Notify maintenance staff of needed repairs through work orders.
  • Assist with fire drills as requested.
  • Write clear and accurate daily reports of shift activities and irregularities.
  • Provide initial investigation and documentation of unusual incidents.
  • Orient and train security staff as needed.
  • Monitor the Mercyhealth environment using electronic security equipment (CCTV, Alarms, etc.).
  • Ensure partners and contractors display required identification.
  • Ensure the safety of all during MedFlight takeoff and landings.
  • Assist with identification of deceased patients and verification of funeral home/Medical Examiner's Office personnel credentials.
  • Perform duties pertinent to site-specific requirements.
