About The Position

This position serves to maintain a safe and supportive environment as a Security Officer 1 for the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. This role involves patrolling grounds, assisting residents and visitors, and responding to safety needs at the Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' Home. The position is part of a team that values vigilance, respect, and steady performance, supporting those who have served the country. The core function is protecting people and property by monitoring activity, responding to concerns, and supporting daily safety operations. This includes maintaining secure facilities, assisting residents and visitors, and executing procedures during routine and emergency situations.

Requirements

• Possess a valid Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle operator's license.
• Be able to perform essential job functions.
• Satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance (required after conditional offer of employment).

Responsibilities

• Make rounds of buildings and grounds to check for theft, trespass, and safety concerns.
• Observe camera systems, check door locks, and document findings in reports.
• Help residents, visitors, and staff by answering calls and providing directions and information.
• Respond to emergency calls, assist during drills, and follow established procedures.
• Gather evidence and interview individuals involved in thefts, safety violations, or other concerns.
• Provide help with resident transport, mail runs, inventories, and identification badge processing.
