About The Position

The Contract Security Officer I position will provide daily rounds, including egress/ingress control of Civil Hospital, Forensic Hospital and the Arizona Community Protection & Treatment Center, as well as the rest of the campus, while providing a physically safe and secure environment. This is a contract position with a duration of 4 months, but it is available to be extended or converted to a full-time employee. The tentative start date is dependent upon interviews, onboarding completion, and the state agency issuing a Purchase Order. HireRight must be used for Background Checks and Drug Screenings. Local candidates only are considered, and resumes must specify the candidate's current location. Candidates must be local at the time of submission, available for in-person interviews within one week of the posting close date, and able to start within two weeks of an offer being made.

Requirements

  • Experience as a Security Guard/Officer
  • Ability to receive, transmit, and carry out written or verbal directives.
  • Effective verbal de-escalation techniques and language.
  • Knowledge of evacuation procedures including the use of fire extinguishers and their operation.
  • Ability to conduct proper investigations and report writing.
  • Ability to monitor and operate electronic cameras or other safety related equipment.
  • Ability to use radio communication equipment, telephones, and emergency numbers.
  • Ability to respond to Hospital related codes and provide verbal and/or physical intervention in critical patient interactions.
  • Ability to maintain interpersonal relationships with patients/residents, staff, and other law enforcement personnel and visitors.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform physical duties such as lifting and carrying.

  • Rubella/Rubeola Titers OR MMR vaccination
  • Hep B Titer OR Hep B vaccination
  • Varicella Titer OR Varicella Vaccination
  • Current TB skin test OR QTB (within the past 12 months)
  • N-95 mask fitting
  • Must be local at time of submission.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily rounds, including egress/ingress control of Civil Hospital, Forensic Hospital and the Arizona Community Protection & Treatment Center, as well as the rest of the campus.
  • Provide a physically safe and secure environment.
  • Respond to, and participate in, various codes, drills and other emergencies.
  • Conduct building/mall safety inspections and provide customer service.
  • Be rotated through various assigned posts or act as a campus interior rover.
  • Assist in patient interventions in any way possible to show support to staff.
  • Problem-solve and assist in resolving patient conflict as appropriate.
  • Encourage proper Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) methods to unit staff.
  • Provide timely information and feedback to on-duty Hospital Security Supervisor, and others as/if necessary.
  • May be involved with vehicle and radio maintenance, safety inspections and related documentation.
