Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must possess a valid driver's license (must meet minimum criteria of Children's Minnesota Fleet Safety Policy)
  • Must be able to successfully pass background checks of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and Department of Human Services (DHS)
  • Must complete and pass use of force training within 30 days of hire
  • Must complete and pass Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training within 90 days of hire
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills a must.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Ability to retain knowledge, information, and directions on an ongoing basis and communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to comprehend numerous policies, procedures, concepts and to be able to make decisions using discretion and interpretive judgment based on general and specific policies.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Must be customer service oriented.
  • Ability to walk and climb stairs.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to see and hear accurately in both day and nighttime conditions.
  • Ability to detect irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards and emergency situations.
  • Effectively contacts and interacts with emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel as required.
  • Ability to restrain or subdue an individual.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Ability to proficiently utilize detaining and apprehension tools as directed.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Business, Psychology or Sociology preferred
  • Prior experience responding and intervening in emergency situations such as crisis de-escalation, intervention, detainment of suspects, reporting and investigating incidents, and enforcing organizational policy preferred.
  • Prior security experience preferred.
  • Administrative professional experience preferred.
  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Certified Forensic Interview (CFI), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), a plus
  • Knowledge of verbal and physical de-escalation, use of force continuum and arrest laws preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day to day activities of ensuring safe and secure Children's campuses for the ambulatory and business locations.
  • Maintain a safe environment through routine patrols of the facilities, grounds, outlying buildings.
  • Respond to all calls both emergency and non-emergency as they occur or in order of importance, helping coordinate with police, fire, and EMS.
  • Monitor alarms, CCTV, and access control systems.
  • Conduct security stands for patients and families at any off-site location as needed.
