About The Position

Westtown School seeks an experienced Security Officer to work part-time on Saturdays from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Additional shifts may be available. Security Officers are responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the school community, all buildings, and the surrounding campus. Security Officers provide on-campus security through regular rounds and camera surveillance. As essential school personnel, Security Officers are expected to be available during inclement weather and other school-closing situations. Westtown School is an independent Quaker pre-K to 12 college-preparatory day and boarding school located in suburban West Chester, PA, approximately 30 miles from Philadelphia. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Current CPR/AED certification required
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving history
  • Must be well-organized and able to prioritize work
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues
  • Able to work independently without close supervision
  • Calm under pressure and able to respond to a variety of situations
  • A commitment to enhancing an inclusive school community based on cultural competence, commitment to social justice, and respect for all voices
  • Required clearances include PA Criminal Background Check, Child Abuse Certification, and FBI fingerprints

Nice To Haves

  • Some college is preferred
  • EMT certification is desired but not required
  • Prior security or related experience is preferred
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of Westtown School and the school’s Quaker values

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and secure environment for students, employees, campus residents, and guests
  • Maintain the safety and security of all campus buildings and grounds through regular rounds, either on foot or in a motorized vehicle
  • Monitor surveillance camera system
  • Investigate and report unsafe conditions and suspicious activity
  • Develop and maintain positive and professional relations with students, parents, faculty, staff, and visitors
  • Respond promptly to all alarms and calls for assistance
  • Provide basic first aid and medical attention as appropriate
  • Complete a log of daily activities and provide “pass-on” information to department personnel
  • Notify police, fire department, and appropriate school officials of any situation requiring immediate attention or emergency response
  • Participate in departmental meetings and required training
  • Other duties as assigned
