Security Officer Full Time Access Control

About The Position

As a Security Officer focused on access control at a university location in Norfolk, Virginia, you will help create a welcoming and secure environment. You will monitor entry points, verify access credentials, maintain a visible presence, and communicate professionally with students, staff, and visitors. You will support security operations through attentive observation, accurate documentation, and timely reporting of concerns. The position is full-time and pays $16.80 per hour. The schedule is Monday through Thursday and Sunday, 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; armed roles require applicants to be at least 21.
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Undergo a background investigation as a condition of employment, in accordance with applicable laws.
Undergo a drug screen as a condition of employment, to the extent permitted by law.
Meet applicable state or local licensing requirements, which may be required before employment.

Responsibilities

Provide customer service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors by following site-specific access-control procedures and policies and, when appropriate, participating in emergency response activities.
Monitor entrances, verify identification and visitor credentials, issue authorized access credentials, and maintain visitor logs in accordance with site procedures.
Respond calmly and use problem-solving skills when handling incidents, access concerns, and critical situations; escalate matters to appropriate personnel as needed.
Conduct regular and random patrols of assigned academic buildings, entrances, and perimeter areas to identify unauthorized access or security-related concerns.
Accurately document incidents, observations, and access-control activities and communicate relevant information to Allied Universal leadership and site contacts.
