About The Position

We are currently seeking a Security Officer. This position is a full-time opportunity located in Columbus, Ohio. As a Security Officer at Battelle, you will serve as a uniformed security professional responsible for safeguarding company and customer assets — including employees, visitors, and both tangible and intangible property. Under general supervision, you will demonstrate proficiency across control center, patrol, and fixed post operations while applying sound judgment and experience to make effective decisions across all shifts. This role also carries a mentorship component, providing coaching and foundational training to junior team members.

Requirements

High school diploma and a minimum of 2 years of applicable experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field
Demonstrated complete proficiency as a Security Officer I
Ability to stand and walk for up to 90% of the work shift, consistent with physical fitness standards for this role
Successful completion of required medical and psychological screening
Familiarity with standard Microsoft Office applications
Strong interpersonal skills, including courtesy, tact, and effectiveness when dealing with others
Ability to employ active thinking, exercise reasonable judgment, and maintain composure in stressful situations
Ability to meet all applicable training and regulatory standards
Valid Ohio driver's license
Firearms qualifications (site/role specific)
Must be a U.S. citizen

Responsibilities

Operating an active, technology-based security control center, including answering domestic and international calls, dispatching via two-way radio, monitoring video surveillance systems, managing access control, responding to life-safety and security alarms, and maintaining required logs
Conducting patrol tours on foot or by vehicle to monitor activity on and around the property, making observations, taking appropriate investigative or enforcement actions, and documenting all actions through detailed reports
Providing coaching and basic training to junior Security Officers to support team development and operational consistency
Performing required security functions at fixed post locations, including lobby and visitor center management, security credential desk operations, checkpoint duties, and perimeter inspections
Following all standard operating procedures and directives in support of security objectives
