About The Position

The Security Officer II is responsible for implementing the departments' Patrol and Response strategy. This role ensures proactive patrols, exceptional customer service, and a willingness to serve. The officer is responsible for helping to maintain a safe and secure operation of the healthcare campus, including high-stress areas such as the ER, Maternal Child, Behavioral Center, and others. The position requires familiarity with and the ability to rotate through all hospital zones.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/Equivalent
• 3 to 5 years Healthcare Security, Safety experience
• Valid Florida’s Driver’s License
• Level II AHCA Screening upon hire
• Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association within 30 days of employment
• WELLE within 90 days of hire
• IAHSS Healthcare Basic Certification within 6 months – maintained every 5 years thereafter
• Valid Auto Insurance

Nice To Haves

• 2 Year degree in related subject or business
• 5 years+ Law Enforcement/Corrections or Military Police may substitute for prior Healthcare Security experience
• Florida State D License (Security) within 90 days of hire
• Preferred Florida State G License (Security) within 12 months

Responsibilities

• Exterior Patrols: Patrol campus for detection and deterrence, conduct visual inspections of vehicles, be present at major shift changes for staff safety, ensure unauthorized persons are not loitering, and assist with helistop landing safety.
• ER Presence: Maintain presence within the ER zone, including waiting areas, pickup/drop-off areas, back treatment areas, and EMS bay arrival. Maintain a calm environment, monitor staff at risk from patients under psychiatric holds, ensure emergency lanes and entrances are unobstructed, assist during Multiple Casualty Incidents (MCI), provide primary backup to Weapon Screening Officer, work in concert with the posted Deputy, and assist with Visitor badging to the ER.
• Interior Patrols: Respond to all non-clinical emergency codes within the facility. Patrol buildings for security presence and safety issues that could harm staff, visitors, or patients. Must be highly mobile and quick to respond. May be required to assist in the lobby with Visitor Badging.
• Documentation: Maintain detailed records of daily work tasks, including activity reports, Security Occurrence/Incident Reports, and entering work orders for deficiencies. Documentation is expected to be completed prior to the end of shift.
• Technology Use: Daily interaction and use of radio and cell phone, access control systems, camera systems, infant alarm systems, and weapons detection systems. Actively monitor and respond to important work-related emails.
• Safety Awareness: Remain vigilant and corrective to safety concerns including slip, trip, and fall risks, inadequate lighting, blocked fire egress routes, and SDS hazmat issues. May be called upon to escort vendors to units. Observe safety protocols within construction, Lab, Radiology, Infant, and Pharmacy areas.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by management within job scope.
