About The Position

The Security Officer Armed Recruit role is a role designated for newly hired Security Officers while preparing for successful transition to an Armed Officer role. During the transition period of 120 days all training and required certifications will be completed to allow them to progress to an Armed Security Officer role. The primary function of this transitional role is to further develop the necessary skills, training, and certifications required to carry a weapon and function as a fully Armed Security Officer. Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, located in Norfolk, VA, is a 525-bed tertiary care facility that is home to the only Level I Adult Trauma Center and burn trauma unit in Hampton Roads, and also serves as the primary teaching hospital for Eastern Virginia Medical School. In addition to the high-quality heart program at Sentara Heart Hospital, our facility is home to Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance and several other dedicated facilities and specialized services. As a recognized accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center, and Magnet hospital for nursing excellence, our hospital specializes in heart and vascular, neurosciences, neurosurgery, urology, oncology, spine care, advanced imaging, behavioral health, maternity, and women’s health, including a state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • State DMV Motor Vehicle Record and current Valid Driver’s license
  • Pass pre-employment screening process, including a fitness assessment and psychological evaluation.
  • Successfully complete and obtain job-specific certifications within 120 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop necessary skills, training, and certifications required to carry a weapon and function as a fully Armed Security Officer.
  • Complete all training and required certifications within 120 days to progress to an Armed Security Officer role.
  • Pass annual fitness assessment.
  • Undergo psychological evaluations every 3 years.
