About The Position
The University of Miami is seeking a Security Officer 1 to join their team. This role involves ensuring the safety and security of university assets, personnel, and property. The Security Officer will be responsible for monitoring surveillance, inspecting premises, controlling access, and responding to security incidents. This is a full-time staff position within a leading research institution and academic health system.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or license
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required
- Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
- Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
- Communication: Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Notifies local police department when backup is necessary.
- Inspects building, equipment, and access points.
- Permits entry of allowed personnel after verifying identity.
- Informs violators of policy and procedures and restrains trespassers.
- Controls traffic by directing drivers.
- Checks surveillance cameras periodically to identify disruptions or unlawful acts.
- Submits reports of surveillance activity and unusual occurrences.
- Secures all exits, doors, and windows after end of operations.
- Investigates people for suspicious activity or possessions.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
