About The Position

CVP is seeking a Security/Linux Engineer to execute and support the implementation of a successful Cybersecurity program. This role involves administering and maintaining Linux servers, remediating issues, assisting with data center equipment setup, investigating security incidents, and performing remote management of workstations and servers. The engineer will collaborate with application teams on system maintenance and patch management, provide guidance on security activities, document security information and event management, and assess information assurance requirements. The position requires applying expertise to government and commercial systems, documenting work, updating Standard Operating Procedures, briefing staff and customers, and providing guidance on NIST, FISMA, Agency Information Security and Privacy, and Cloud Guidelines.

Requirements

  • 4-year college degree in Computer Science or related field and 3-5 years of experience or 5 years of experience in lieu of a college degree.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience and knowledge of Linux platform (i.e. RHEL, CentOS) including administration, management, and troubleshooting for physical and virtual platforms.
  • Performs software upgrades, patch installs, firmware upgrades then test for functionality on a periodic basis.
  • Experience demonstrating strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for security information and event management.
  • At least 3 years of security experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Experience with Microsoft Server support when needed.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust government security clearance
  • Knowledge of NIST, FISMA, and Cloud Environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Security+, or other security certification preferred
  • Two years of federal security support experience preferred
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience and understanding of proactive monitoring concepts, including experience configuring and deploying Network and systems monitoring (i.e. SNMP, Nagios, Splunk, Ansible, Spacewalk, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience performing trend analysis on overall system health, performance, and capacity management with regard to utilization and growth
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain capacity metric
  • Experience working with software and hardware vendors to resolve issues and share requirements
  • Experience with ServiceNow, Splunk, Tanium, Elastic and Microsoft Security Solutions a plus

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain Linux (RHEL, CentOS) Servers
  • Remediate server and software issues
  • Help with setting up and racking, stacking and wiring of equipment as needed in data center.
  • Investigate to determine root causes of security issues to perform troubleshooting and problem resolution to restore services.
  • Remote management and troubleshooting of workstations and servers
  • Collaborate with application teams to perform system maintenance and patch management tasks
  • Provide guidance and support security activities while building relationships with key personnel.
  • Document and inform management with information about security information and event management.
  • Assess information assurance and security requirements based upon the analysis of user, policy, regulatory, and resource demands.
  • Apply know-how to government and commercial common user systems, as well as to dedicated special purpose systems requiring specialized security features and procedures.
  • Document work for leadership, update/create Standard Operating Procedures, and brief staff and customers various tasks.
  • Provide agency with guidance in following NIST, FISMA, Agency Information Security and Privacy, and Cloud Guidelines.
