About The Position

Children’s Minnesota is one of the largest pediatric health systems in the United States and the only health system in Minnesota to provide care exclusively to children, from before birth through young adulthood. It operates as an independent and not-for-profit system since 1924, serving kids throughout the Upper Midwest at two free-standing hospitals, nine primary care clinics, multiple specialty clinics, and seven rehabilitation sites. As Minnesota's children's hospital, it is the eighth-largest pediatric health care organization in the U.S., providing care through nearly 13,000 inpatient visits and more than 200,000 emergency room and other outpatient visits annually. The system has 319 staffed hospital beds and offers services in all major pediatric specialties, including emergency care, newborn and pediatric intensive care, outpatient and inpatient surgery, diagnostic services, and special programs. Its facilities include Minneapolis and St. Paul Campuses, Children's West in Minnetonka, Children's - Roseville, and Children's Clinics - Woodwinds in Woodbury. The Security Lead position is responsible for the oversight of maintaining a safe and secure Children's campus. This role involves overseeing security staff (officers and dispatchers), including assigning work, coaching, and recommending discipline, with the core purpose of promoting a safe environment for patients, visitors, and hospital employees.

Requirements

  • Possess excellent multi-tasking abilities
  • Capable of prioritizing tasks and setting priorities in a fast paced, multi-faceted environment
  • Excellent verbal, writing and computer skills
  • Able to prepare verbal and written reports
  • Complete and pass use of force training within 30 days of hire
  • Complete and pass Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training within 90 days of hire
  • Able to wear respiratory protection (N-95 respirator, full face respirator and PAPR), be fit tested, and able to pass respirator physical
  • Possess a valid driver's license (must meet minimum criteria of Children's Minnesota Fleet Safety Management policy)
  • Able to successfully pass background checks of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and Department of Human Services (DHS)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to lead staff, including assigning work and recommending discipline
  • Ability to provide positive direction and motivate performance
  • Knowledge of leadership practices and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with people at various social levels and across diverse cultures
  • Strong customer service and results orientation
  • Able to use or learn computer programs for dispatching officers, report writing, information database look ups, email, access control and video monitoring systems
  • Ability to operate, or learn to use, two way radios, telephone, copier, fax and pager notification systems

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Business, Psychology or Sociology
  • Prior experience in a security or public safety field
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Prior experience responding and intervening in emergency situations such as crisis de-escalation, intervention, detainment of suspects, reporting and investigating incidents, and enforcing organizational policy
  • Emergency Operations Center experience
  • Healthcare knowledge/experience
  • POST skills completed, International Association of Hospital Safety and Security (Basic), First Responder, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or OSHA first responder certifications
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI)
  • Knowledge of security operations and procedures
  • Knowledge of verbal and physical de-escalation, use of force continuum and arrest laws
