About The Position

Historic Hudson Valley (HHV) is a Westchester-based cultural non-profit that welcomes visitors to four National Historic Landmarks, including Philipsburg Manor, Van Cortlandt Manor, and Washington Irving’s Sunnyside. HHV offers an array of K-12 school programs, public tours, and seasonal festivals including the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze. The organization has a national reputation for groundbreaking on-site educational programs and award-winning digital content in the areas of Northern colonial enslavement, regional women’s history, and storytelling. Historic Hudson Valley is seeking a Part-Time Security Guard to help protect and care for HHV’s historic sites, facilities, visitors, staff, and collections.

Requirements

  • At least two years of security, law enforcement, military, public safety, facilities safety, or closely related experience.
  • A valid and current New York State Security Guard registration card.
  • Completion of required New York State security guard training, including the 8-hour pre-assignment course and 16-hour on-the-job training course, or proof of applicable waiver or equivalent status recognized by New York State.
  • Ability to complete required annual in-service training and maintain all legally required credentials.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including email, internet use, and Microsoft Word or similar software.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work variable evening/night shifts, weekends, holidays, festivals, and special events as scheduled.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working at cultural, museum, historic-site, nonprofit, event, campus, or public-facing facilities.
  • Experience preparing written incident reports or shift logs.
  • Familiarity with alarm response, fire-watch procedures, crowd observation, or emergency communication protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol HHV grounds and buildings after closing to help protect sites from unauthorized access, fire, hazards, and property damage.
  • Monitor assigned areas during festivals, programs, and special events.
  • Observe, document, and report unusual circumstances, including trespassers, storm damage, lighting or equipment issues, safety hazards, or other incidents.
  • Respond to alarms, emergency situations, and site-security concerns at HHV locations as assigned.
  • Walk and patrol historic-site grounds, including uneven terrain, stairs, outdoor areas, and low-light conditions, using appropriate lighting and safety equipment.
  • Follow HHV security procedures, emergency protocols, reporting requirements, and supervisor instructions.
  • Use basic computer systems for email, reports, logs, and related communications.
  • Perform other related security duties as assigned.
