About The Position

The Security Guard is responsible for maintaining site security, controlling facility access, monitoring inbound and outbound traffic, and supporting inventory accountability at the lumber mill. This position serves as the first point of contact for visitors, contractors, vendors, and truck drivers while ensuring compliance with company safety policies and procedures. The Security Guard plays a critical role in protecting company assets, maintaining accurate records, and supporting safe and efficient mill operations. This position does require a rotating schedule of days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of six (6) months in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred
  • Ability to work outdoors in all temperatures in loud, high volume environments performing physical tasks throughout the shift
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position which includes walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform all tasks in accordance with West Fraser safety policies and procedures
  • Recognize and support our team culture, communicating effectively with all team members
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends

Responsibilities

  • Maintain plant site security and control access for all visitors, contractors, vendors, and truck drivers.
  • Verify identities, issue visitor and contractor credentials, and maintain accurate access records.
  • Direct inbound and outbound traffic safely and efficiently within the facility.
  • Operate radios, telephones, computers, and other communication systems as required.
  • Enforce PPE requirements and company safety policies for all personnel entering the facility.
  • Maintain contractor sign-in/sign-out logs and communicate contractor activity to appropriate departments.
  • Process, verify, and maintain vendor paperwork, load sheets, bills of lading, and other shipping documentation.
  • Perform manual counts of lumber loads on flatbed trucks to verify quantities and ensure load accuracy before entering or exiting the facility.
  • Monitor and document truck arrivals, departures, and load information to support inventory control and accountability.
  • Remain familiar with the plant layout, fire protection systems, emergency procedures, and PIV valve operations.
  • Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies, security concerns, and unexpected situations.
  • Report safety hazards, suspicious activity, accidents, and security breaches to management.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional gatehouse environment.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
