About The Position

The Security Engineer I is an entry-level role focused on the operational support, configuration, and maintenance of enterprise security systems and tools. This role combines hands-on platform administration with the early stages of engineering exposure. The Security Engineer I supports the enforcement of security baselines, assists with system patching, and helps maintain key security platforms including, but not limited to network security, endpoint protection, SIEM, identity and access management (IAM), and security analysis tools. This role works under direct supervision but contributes meaningfully to the stability and security of infrastructure components.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2 years of work-related experience.
  • Required certifications: CompTIA Security+.
  • Microsoft Security Fundamentals.
  • Vendor-specific security tool certifications (e.g., CrowdStrike, Tenable, BeyondTrust, SailPoint).

  • Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Security Tool Operations and Support – 40%
  • Monitors and maintains tools such as endpoint protection, vulnerability scanners, and identity access platforms.
  • Performs routine health checks of security tools and escalates anomalies for investigation.
  • Responds to support tickets and service requests related to security tool functionality.
  • Assists with logging configuration and forwarding to central SIEM or log aggregator.
  • Coordinates and validates security tool patching cycles.
  • Tracks and reports on compliance gaps using security dashboards.
  • Configuration Management and Baseline Enforcement – 30%
  • Applies standard configurations, maintains baselines, and ensures compliance with change control policies.
  • Follows predefined scripts and templates to enforce configuration standards (CIS, NIST benchmarks).
  • Applies and validates endpoint configuration baselines during new system deployments.
  • Supports implementation of basic group policies and security settings for managed systems.
  • Assists with the secure setup of operating systems.
  • Access Management and Provisioning Support – 15%
  • Assists with user provisioning and deprovisioning pipelines using IAM systems.
  • Deploys patches manually or via automation tools under guidance.
  • Documentation and Team Collaboration – 15%
  • Maintains documentation for standard operating procedures and configuration baselines.
  • Participates in cross-functional projects under senior guidance.
  • Communicates with employees within immediate team on matters related to the department.
  • Follows a well-established and familiar set of activities and/or processes to derive a solution.
