Job Summary: As a Security Design and Technology Intern, you will gain practical experience working on Electronic Safety and Security systems for a variety of project types, including new facility construction and existing facility renovations in markets such as data centers, sporting facilities, commercial, retail, multi-dwelling residential, hotel, education, and healthcare properties. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with Senior staff and Consultants, gain exposure to the Architectural and Engineering community, and contribute to real project work in the construction industry.

Requirements

  • Working toward an associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering design, information technology, electronics, architecture, or Salas O’Brien approved design certificate program with a target graduation of Spring 2027.
  • Familiarity or coursework related to structured cabling systems, networks, Wi‑Fi, security systems, or audiovisual systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Good time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks during a fast-paced summer workload.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to low voltage IT infrastructure, structured cabling, building automation, security, or audiovisual systems through coursework, personal interest, or previous experience.
  • Basic experience with Bluebeam, Revit and/or AutoCAD through coursework or prior internships.
  • An understanding of engineering workflows, technical documentation standards, or design processes in architecture, engineering, or construction (AEC) industries.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the guidance and supervision of Project Executives and Senior Consultants to support design direction and deliverables.
  • Assist with developing product cuts packages, drawings and specifications using tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam and Microsoft Office 365 standard desktop software.
  • Help translate client requirements into preliminary technical designs and documentation.
  • Participate in select phases of the design process, including needs assessment, design development, and construction support activities as appropriate for an intern.
  • Support surveys of existing facilities to document security systems and components.
  • Collaborate with project team members including Architects and MEP Engineers to coordinate security design requirements.
  • Conduct research on industry standards, products, and emerging technologies to support project work.
