About The Position

At Summit Hills, we are a community recognized as a Great Place to Work® and our philosophy is “People First, Always.” We are looking for a Security/Courtesy Officer to monitor the campus, respond to calls for assistance, conduct routine patrols, and provide courteous support to residents while ensuring community policies and safety procedures are followed. This role is crucial in enriching the lives of our seniors and creating a positive impact within our community. The Courtesy Officer provides security and assists residents, families, and guests with campus services. This role responds to emergency calls, performs hourly security checks, and coordinates building lockdowns and unlocks under the supervision of the Director of Facility Services. Scheduled hours are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 7pm–7am.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Mechanical or maintenance experience required.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must conduct all business with a professional manner and with a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to use hand tools, carts and dollies.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of fire and safety procedures including those involving blood-borne pathogens.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical training in mechanics, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC desired.
  • CPR Certification desired.
  • Two years’ experience in a similar courtesy or security position desired.

Responsibilities

  • Represents the campus in a positive manner while creating an environment that fosters respect and courtesy for residents and employees alike.
  • Works within the campus programs to encourage and promote safety and the well-being of all residents and employees.
  • Upholds the campus’s Mission Statement.
  • Maintains HIPAA standards and regards all medical or healthcare information pertaining to residents and employees as confidential.
  • Performs security checks throughout buildings, home lots and campus streets once every hour.
  • Logs any suspicious or unusual occurrences.
  • Responds with or without healthcare staff to emergency calls in homes and apartments.
  • Locks building down and unlocks buildings at the appropriate times.
  • Greets guests at the front gate, checks destinations and allows entry, if granted.
  • Checks front gate for workability and responds to any problem areas.
  • Accompanies employees and residents (if requested) to the parking lot after sundown.
  • Approaches and questions any visitors to the campus after hours.
  • Greets and directs any emergency personnel to the emergency situation (fire department, police officers, EMT’s, etc).
  • Implements the prescribed lighting program inside and outside the buildings.
  • Ensures that all exterior lights are operational.
  • Gathers trash from the campus buildings and disposes in a dumpster.
  • Rolls trash cans that weigh approximately 30lbs each from the campus buildings to a pick-up truck.
  • Loads the trash cans on a pickup truck with a mechanical lift.
  • Drives the pickup truck loaded with trash cans to the loading dock.
  • Uses a mechanical lift to dump the trash cans into the dumpster.
  • Travels occasionally for training sessions, continuing education opportunities, emergency situations, and other company functions.
  • Remains in proper uniform at all times and maintains a high standard of appearance.
  • Completes any maintenance work orders in a timely manner (if required).
  • Maintains excellent resident and employee relations.
  • Handles complaints and recommendations constructively.
  • Answers switchboard when needed and greets people at the front desk.
  • Attends employee in-services as required.
  • Is available for on-call situations on a regular rotating and emergency basis.
  • Monitors all emergency and safety equipment.
  • Accepts other duties as required by the Director of Maintenance.
